Course Information
Description	Private instruction in bass guitar with goals related to commercial music.
Prerequisites	Acceptance into the Commercial Music program
Learning Outcomes	1) Demonstrate proficiency in commercial music repertoire and technique (PSLO 1,3,4) 2) Develop a professional, disciplined approach to performance skills (PSLO 1,3,4) 3) Present a juried performance for faculty (PSLO 1,2,3,4) 4) Identify all main ideas, supporting details, and vocabulary in reading material; demonstrate a full understanding of the reading; (PSLO Alpha)

Applies basic music industry principles to professional practice. 4. Demonstrates professional behavior characterized by a commitment to the profession.
Textbooks	Text may or may not be assigned after evaluation of student skill level. Recommended: J.S. Bach for Bass, Josquin des Pres, Mel Bay Publications
Lecture Topics Outline	DETAILED COURSE DESCRIPTION - Technical Studies: scales, arpeggios, walking bass lines, harmonic progression, note reading, chart reading, 'numbers', slap technique, right and left hand technique, etc. - Style Studies: pop, rock, country, reggae, r&b, soul, funk, latin, jazz, gospel, etc. - Melodic Studies: soloing/improv concepts, jazz harmony and tension, melodic analysis, modal playing - Repertoire: rhythm/accompaniment and solo pieces in a variety of commercial styles - Jury: Prepared piece to be performed at the scheduled Jury Recital date - Study of Commercial Ensemble Tunes when applicable student - Fundamentals: Bach for Bass study

Determination of Final Grade	This is a 2 credit course that is required to meet 4 hours per week, one with your applied faculty plus three additional hours, exclusive of course preparation. Attendance Policy	There are about 15 weeks in every semester; students are expected to attend at least 14 lessons per semester. Final grades will be reduced 5 points for every lesson missed.
Academic Honesty	Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
Facility Policies	No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
